Une petite révolution dans le paysage audiovisuelle, puisque la chaîne, très agressive, a acquis de nombreux droits sportifs jusque-là dévolus à Canal+, et notamment le foot. Deux chaînes sportives ont ainsi été imaginées pour diffuser les 16 disciplines tombées pour le moment dans la chaîne en provenance du Qatar, qui s’est même permis d’aller débaucher du côté de la chaîne cryptée afin de constituer ses équipes de commentateurs, animateurs et journalistes. Et à la tête du groupe, c’est un ancien de la maison Canal que l’on retrouve, en la personne de Charles Biétry.

A l’occasion du lancement de la chaîne le vendredi 1er juin, le groupe qatari avait une fois de plus sorti les dollars qui coulent en abondance grâce à la manne financière du pétrole et surtout du gaz. Une énorme soirée avait été organisée au théâtre de Chaillot à Paris, et des sportifs de toutes les disciplines avaient été invités pour l’occasion aux côtés d’Alexandra Rosenfeld et Saïd Taghmaoui.

Côté foot, on retrouvait Carlo Ancelotti, entraîneur du PSG, mais aussi la jeune star Hatem Ben Arfa et Adil Rami, qui bénéficiaient de quelques jours de repos dans la préparation de l’équipe de France à l’Euro. Quelques anciens de la maison PSG avaient fait le déplacement, à l’image de Bernard Lama, Vincent Guérin ou Laurent Robert et leur ancien entraîneur, Luis Fernandez. D’autres glorieux joueurs ont fait une apparition, comme Sonny Anderson et le champion du monde Bernard Diomède.

Le monde de l’Ovalie avait quelques représentants en la personne de Fulgence Ouedraogo et du mannequin Maxime Mermoz et de l’ancien boss du stade Français, Max Guazzini. Roland-Garros oblige, les joueurs et joueuses de tennis étaient venus en voisins. Rafael Nadal, qui fêtait son anniversaire deux jours après, mais aussi les anciens du circuit comme Sébastien Grosjean, Mansour Bahrami ou Mary Pierce, accompagnés des jeunes pousses Pauline Parmentier et Olivia Sanchez.

Également présents ce soir-là, le handballeur Nikola Karabatic, le pilote Romain Grosjean, le nageur Amaury Leveaux et bien d’autres, tous rassemblés pour donner le coup d’envoi de BeIN SPORT.
